Paramount has announced Jason Reitman‘s latest film, Young Adult, for Blu-Ray in March. The film stars Charlize Theron as a writer of young adult novels who heads back to her home town to attempt to steal an ex-boyfriend back. The dark comedy also stars Patrick Wilson and Patton Oswalt.

Young Adult is the latest collaboration from director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody. It features trademark Cody dialogue, which is either a really good thing or a really bad thing depending on how you look at it. I personally can’t stand Cody as a writer, but I enjoy Reitman as a director. The film barely feels like a Reitman film though, which only makes Charlize Theron‘s excellent performance seem even more wasteful. Not to mention Patton Oswalt‘s dramatic turn that should have landed him an Oscar nomination.

Our very own Karen Benardello had this to say about the film in her review.

Young Adult‘s surprising protagonist, the superficial Mavis, perfectly captures the essence of the popular crowd who peaked in high school and now don’t have a single redeeming characteristic. While Mavis engages in some outrageous acts that many people wouldn’t even consider doing, particularly trying to win back their married high school sweetheart, her vulnerability allows viewers to empathize with her pain. While her own parents fail to do anything to help her emotionally mature, Mavis’ surprising but natural relationship with Matt makes her realize there’s more to life than being the former It girl in school.

The Blu-Ray/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack will come with a 1080p video transfer, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and the following special features.

  • Commentary by director Jason Reitman, director of photography Eric Steelberg and first director/associate producer Jason A. Blumenfeld
  • Two behind-the-scenes featurettes (Misery Loves Company: The Making of Young Adult, The Awful Truth: Deconstructing a Scene)
  • Q&A featuring critic Janet Maslin and Jason Reitman at the Jacob Burns Film Center
  • Deleted Scenes

Young Adult will hit Blu-Ray on March 13th, 2012.
