Shame; the NC-17 rated Steve McQueen directed and Michael Fassbender starred drama about a man with an unhealthy addiction to sex, has been announced for Blu-Ray in April.

The bleak, depressing and hard to watch film also stars Carey Mulligan and James Badge Dale. Shame is no easy film to sit through and to say it’s a rewarding experience would be just wrong. The best way to describe it is to simply call it a Steve McQueen film. The director is known to tug on human emotions by way of sad and lonely characters. His previous film, Hunger, also starred Michael Fassbender and that’s no picnic either.

The film made my top ten list of films of 2011, but that’s not to say it’s for everyone to enjoy. It’s for a very limited audience, an audience that can endure a film that pushes the boundaries of comfort and will give you a whole new perspective on the act of sex.

Our very own Kristal Cooper had this to say about Shame in her review.

Shame is an elegant, art-tinged character study that that will hover in your psyche for a long time after you see it; whether or not that’s a good thing is up to you.

The Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Here’s a list of confirmed special features.

  • Two Focus on Featurettes (Michael Fassbender, Director Steve McQueen)
  • Two behind-the-scenes featurettes (The Story of Shame, A Shared Vision)
  • Fox Movie Channel Presents: In Character with Michael Fassbender featurette
  • Theatrical Trailer

Shame will hit shelves on April 17th, 2012.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
