Lionsgate has announced the Blu-Ray release for the Steven Soderbergh action flick Haywire in May. The film stars MMA fighter Gina Carano alongside Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Bill Paxton, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor.

Haywire marks the second Soderbergh film in a matter of months. The first, Contagion, opened at the box office with impressive numbers and went on to gross $75 million (domestically). Haywire on the other hand failed to find an audience and is currently sitting at a worldwide gross of $25 million. I’m not sure why people aren’t paying to see one of the best action films of the year. The hand-to-hand combat is impressive and the all-star cast mixed with Soderbergh’s stylish directing makes for a kick-ass film.

Our very own Kristal Cooper had this to say about the film in her review.

Carano is engaging to watch on screen but she doesn’t show much range as an actress (she’s admitted that Soderbergh had to alter her voice and many of her line readings during post-production). Meanwhile, the rest of the usually excellent cast sleepwalks through on auto pilot spouting ridiculously rote lines of dialogue, presumably happy to add a Soderbergh film, no matter how minor, to their resumes.

Haywire will be presented in a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack with the following behind-the-scenes featurettes:

  • Carano’s Transition from MMA to Film
  • A Look at the Men of Haywire

Haywire will be released on May 1st, 2012.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
