Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Blu-Ray Coming In June

Neveldine/Taylor's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be coming to 2D and 3D Blu-Ray on June 12th, 2012. Out of all of the random comic-book offspring films to warrant a sequel most thought the Nicolas Cage starring Ghost Rider wasn't worthy of another attempt. Despite some ripe material for a dark adaptation, the character of Ghost Rider was a tricky one due to the supernatural origins of the character. In 2007 director Mark Steven Johnson tried making a big-budget summer blockbuster out of the character and the resulting film was just flat out stupid.

The comic-book sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, directed by Crank creators Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor, will be coming to Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray 3D in June.

Out of all of the random comic-book offspring films to warrant a sequel, most thought the Nicolas Cage starring Ghost Rider wasn’t worthy of another attempt. Despite some ripe material for a dark adaptation, the character of Ghost Rider was a tricky one due to the supernatural origins of the character. In 2007 director Mark Steven Johnson tried making a big-budget summer blockbuster out of the character and the resulting film was just flat out stupid.

So, when the guys behind the chaotically entertaining Crank movies climbed aboard production people started to actually care, especially with Nic Cage‘s current state of being. He’s been letting out his nutty side recently and his passion for the character plus his odd approach to acting as of late made the film slowly gain some traction, but the outcome was received with mixed reviews.

The positives came from Cage’s across-the-board acting and Neveldine/Taylor‘s insane camera angles. The negatives came from the lack of story and the disappointing action sequences that were more about buildup than payoff.

I thought the film was decent, but it struggled from completely working due to its PG-13 rating restriction and poorly written script. That being said, I’m also a big Neveldine/Taylor fan.

Our very own Christian Law didn’t feel the same as me. He absolutely hated the film. Here’s what he said in his review:

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is too awful and cheesy to recommend to anyone, even the most diehard superhero fans.

The film can be purchased in a Blu-Ray/UltraViolet combo pack or a 3D Blu-Ray/2D Blu-Ray/UltraViolet combo pack. Both packages will come with 1080p transfers and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks. The following bonus content has been confirmed:

  • Directors’ expanded video commentary
  •  Five-part The Path to Vengeance: Making Ghost Rider 2 documentary
  •  We Will Burn This City To Bitter Ashes featurette
  •  Riding Into Another Dimension behind-the-scenes featurette (3D Exclusive)

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be available to own on June 12th, 2012.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
