James Cameron‘s Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, will be coming to Blu-Ray sometime later this year.

Amazon has listed pre-orders for both 2D and 3D combo pack versions of Cameron’s romantic blockbuster and although a street date isn’t confirmed, most sources are saying September 14th, 2012 is when the film will anchor.

Titanic recently saw a theatrical re-release in 3D and while it didn’t take the number one spot at the box office, it did set some more records around the world. Say what you want about the film, but don’t deny the achievements it’s made and how it changed the genre.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the film and I can say that the 3D was worth the trip back to the theater. It adds a whole new layer of depth to the film and helps you paint a picture of just how frightful the whole event must have been.

The best use of 3D is during the last act when Rose is trying to navigate through the long corridors while the ship quickly fills up with cold water. There’s a specific shot of her looking down a narrow hallway that brings the film full circle.

No special features have been confirmed, but we do know the film will be offered in two different packs: a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack and a Blu-Ray 3D/Blu-Ray 2D/Digital Copy combo pack.

We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
