Marvel Studios reportedly pushes back Disney Plus schedule

More delays incoming for future Marvel Studios content.

It seems things aren’t looking good for Marvel Studios as of late after it was announced that a handful of future Marvel Disney Plus content will be pushed back. This comes after it was announced that Marvel Studios’ president of physical production, post-production, VFX, and animation, Victoria Alonso had been fired.

Insiders from Disney and Marvel Studios told the press that there were supposed to be five Disney Plus Marvel series slated for release sometime in 2023. But due to Alonso’s exit from the company, it was reported by Variety that only three would be released this year. Fortunately, it was confirmed that her departure wouldn’t affect the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release.

“Insiders say the five Disney+ series from Marvel Studios that had been scheduled to debut in 2023 have been narrowed to three or four, with the others moving into 2024 and possibly beyond. That will take some of the immediate pressure off of Marvel’s post-production pipeline. Alonso’s absence is not expected to affect the next Marvel title, May’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which has nearly locked picture.”

It’s currently unknown why Alonso was let go from the company. However, it was alleged that she was questioned about the behind-the-scenes workings during her time at the company, especially when multiple VFX artists openly posted on social media about how much of a “terrible client” Marvel was. It was also rumored that Alonso would “blacklist artists” and created a “toxic work environment” during her tenure.

This isn’t the first time that Marvel Studios announced a push of its release schedule. Last year, the delayed production of Blade meant that a handful of future Marvel films like The Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars had their dates pushed back too. It’s currently unknown who will be replacing Alonso.
