Sony has announced 2D and 3D Blu-Ray releases for Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest installment in the popular Resident Evil franchise, titled Resident Evil: Retribution for December, starring Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest 3D Resident Evil entry in the long-lasting series simply might be the worst. Resident Evil: Retribution takes the expanded budget and bigger scope and does virtually nothing with it, simply rehashing old and dead characters from previous films to help further the now pathetic story of Alice and her daily habits of killing zombies and zombie-like creatures that were mutated by Umbrella Corp.
We’ve gotten to the point in the series where 3D has already been exploited and there’s nothing left to do aside from continuing the milking process until the entire world stops showing up for these films. The US numbers have been steadily declining (thankfully), but the rest of the world keeps eating up these films, which is why Anderson and his wife and star Milla Jovovich keep returning for more.
I hated the flick, but our very own Matt Donato had kinder things to say about the film in his review:
Paul W.S. Anderson’s writing may not have blown minds and our characters may not be up for any awards, but Resident Evil: Retribution showcases tantalizing big budget action on a stylistically provocative level that draws upon fun-focused B-movie influences.
