Universal Announces Anna Karenina For Blu-Ray In February

Usually when Keira Knightley and Joe Wright team together for a period piece the results are well-crafted pieces of filmmaking that cater to a specific crowd. I'm not part of that crowd and while I've passed up on seeing Anna Karenina a couple of times I simply cannot call it a bad-looking film; just a boring one.

Universal has announced Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina for Blu-Ray in February. The film stars Keira Knightley and Jude Law.

Usually when Keira Knightley and Joe Wright team together for a period piece the results are well-crafted pieces of filmmaking that cater to a specific crowd. I’m not part of that crowd and while I’ve passed up on seeing Anna Karenina a couple of times, I simply cannot call it a bad-looking film; just a boring one.

The cinematography, the sets and even the costume design all look intriguing, but the actual story looks like something I’d rather not follow, even if the performances are true and enduring. Anna Karenina looks like something best settled over a late-night rental or perhaps an Oscar marathon for the high-brows.

Knightley has been praised for her performance as the leading lady and I’ve heard a good thing or two about Law and co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson. I just haven’t mustered up nearly enough interest to actually check this one out and I fear that I might be underselling it a bit too much.

Our very own Will Chadwick had this to say about the film in his review:

Anna Karenina is a beautiful, unique and ambitious vision that is crowned by some spectacular performances with Keira Knightley and Jude Law really standing out.

That’s enough praise for me to jot it down on my eventually-watch list, but I’m afraid it won’t be something I’ll be seeking out specifically in February.

The Blu-Ray is padded with the following special features:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Anna Karenina: An Epic Story About Love
  • Adapting Tolstoy
  • Keira as Anna
  • On the Set with Director Joe Wright
  • Dressing Anna
  • Anna Karenina: Time-Lapse Photography
  • Feature Commentary with Director Joe Wright
  • Digital Copy
  • UltraViolet Digital Copy

Anna Karenina will be available to purchase on February 19th, 2013.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
