If Sony exuded confidence prior to the release of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters redo, the studio quickly reined in franchise plans following the movie’s dismal box office performance – a performance that is on course to cost Sony around $70 million. That effectively places that proposed sequel on ice for the time being, but fans can at least take solace in the fact that an extended cut of Feig’s spooky tentpole will be included in the Blu-ray and DVD release come October.
October 11, to be specific, when Ghostbusters: Answer the Call will hit store shelves packing a range of extras from a pair of “hysterically haunting” gag reels to 11 “totally possessed” alternate scenes. Silly titles aside, it will be fascinating to weigh up this extended edition against the theatrical version when the time comes, given how many of the scenes involving Chris Hemsworth’s bumbling receptionist Kevin were trimmed, cut or relegated to the credits.
Here’s a rundown of what to expect. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call will make its debut via Digital HD on September 27.
