But now, Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer’s 2019 adaptation is headed to home video, and if you somehow missed out on picking up a copy of Mary Lambert’s 1989 film, Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing both movies in a brand new combo-pack.

The Digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray releases of the new film include over 90 minutes of supplementary extras, including deleted scenes, an alternate ending, and four “chapters” on the making of Stephen King’s most recent theatrical adaptation. The author himself praised the film as well, calling it “f-cking great,” so it’ll be fun to watch him spout off about it at length in the BTS features.

While this year’s Pet Semetary remake didn’t quite land with critics, it’s still the perfect kind of film to watch on a Friday night with your friends. Better yet, this combo-pack provides grade-A double feature material, as there’s no better way to spend a weekend than watching two versions of undead children wreak havoc in a rural Maine town.

I speak from experience when I say collecting physical media is becoming a challenging hobby. Home video distributors are taking note as more and more consumers phase out their DVD collections for streaming services, so it’s nice to see that some studios are still giving titles a proper release. As Jud Crandall says, “Sometimes, dead is better.”

The Pet Sematary Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Combo-Pack hits shelves July 9th.
