Detective Pikachu Blu-Ray Details And Release Date Revealed

Fans won't have to wait too much longer before they'll be able pick up a digital or physical copy of Detective Pikachu for themselves.

If you’ve been keeping up to date on video game film adaptations, then there’s a good chance you’re already familiar with Detective Pikachu. This joint collaboration between Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures and The Pokémon Company is a first for the ever-popular franchise, which has already seen plenty of animated movies modeled after the long-running TV show.

While critics took issue with the overall plot and characters – a sentiment shared by our very own Mike Lee – it’s hard to deny Detective Pikachu‘s success at the box office. Longtime Pokémon fans (myself included) were pleased with how the lovable creatures looked on screen, and it should come as no surprise that Legendary announced a sequel is already in development. The follow-up is probably a few years away, but if you’ve been hankering to give Detective Pikachu another watch, we got some good news for you.

As reported by ComicBook.com, physical and digital home releases are on the way, and fans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on them. Borys Kit, a staff writer for The Hollywood Reporter, recently took to Twitter, revealing that Detective Pikachu would be hitting digital storefronts on July 23rd, with Blu-Ray and DVD copies set to reach shelves on August 6th. Videophiles will also be glad to hear the film is getting a 4K release, too. It turns out it was shot on 35mm, so there’s a good chance the UHD version will look noticeably sharper and more vivid than the standard Blu-Ray copy.

While I’m certain the villain’s motives and the overarching plot won’t make a lick of sense the second time around, I’m still excited to bring home Detective Pikachu, if only to hear Ryan Reynold’s terrific performance one more time. What about you, though? Do you plan on picking up a copy for yourself? Let us know in the comments below!
