Well, that was a fast turnaround. The David Fincher American adaptation of the Swedish novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be coming to Blu-Ray in March. Today, Sony announced the film, which stars Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer, for Blu-Ray release.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) was marketed as the feel bad movie of Christmas and it opened on December 21st with great numbers considering the dark material. The film has already grossed $140 million dollars worldwide based on a $90 million dollar budget, so a sequel is almost guaranteed at this point.

The critical response for the film has been coming down the middle, with most of the complaints coming from the root of the story from the novel it’s based upon or Steven Zaillian‘s script, which took many liberties changing things around. Rooney Mara however, has been praised for her performance as the films protagonist Lisbeth Salander.

I liked the film, but I didn’t love it. I don’t think it’s as good as the original Swedish film or even David Fincher‘s previous film, The Social Network. Our very own Kristal Cooper had this to say about the film in here review.

Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo manages to build on the original film without copying it, reinventing it or ignoring it. He’s made the story more cinematic and sweeping while still maintaining the quiet contemplative tone of the first film.

The disc will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The disc will contain the following bonus supplement.

  • Commentary by David Fincher

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) will be released on Blu-Ray on March 20th, 2012.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
