Star Trek: Discovery is to premiere on TV for the first time this September. The show’s rookie season will air on CBS as part of a limited promotional run, beginning with the first episode on the 24th at 10pm ET. This comes exactly three years after its original premiere on CBS All Access. More pertinently for fans, though, it serves as a primer for season 3's premiere on October 15th, which will also be on All Access.
For a movie that doesn’t come out until 2022, we’ve been getting some downright mad production details for The Flash. Curiously they don’t have anything to do with the title character - instead Batman has been stealing his thunder with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck making unexpected returns as part of a multiverse storyline. The latest plot scoop concerns Flash’s arch-nemesis Reverse-Flash, who according to Heroic Hollywood will not be the film’s main villain, although this does leave open the possibility that the character will feature in some capacity.
Interest in Zack Snyder’s Justice League has intensified in the wake of the DC FanDome trailer, which was our first real look at his rebuilt cut of the movie. But despite the reveals, and there were many, it’s still unknown exactly when it’ll be released. At least, that’s what you’d think. But there’s a possibility now that someone has let it slip.
One of the more outlandish subplots in Iron Man 3 saw President Matthew Ellis kidnapped by the Mandarin (who not to mention also obliterated Air Force One). Ellis was played by William Sadler, and though he briefly reprised the role in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., to date, Iron Man 3 his only movie appearance in the MCU.
Between them, Alex Kurtzman and CBS All Access have transformed the Star Trek TV landscape in recent times. Prior to 2017, no series under the umbrella had been broadcast for 12 years. Now, with Discovery, Picard, and an upcoming spinoff in the works, it seems the only way is up, or out (whatever direction of travel space affords).
If you’re reading this, by now you’ve probably seen The Batman's teaser trailer. I imagine you would’ve watched it in any state that you could find it in, just as long as it was the real deal. Well, courtesy of Matt Reeves, you can now do a lot better. The director has uploaded a version of the teaser to Vimeo in glorious 4K and it's of course made its way over to YouTube, with the Ultra HD copy being available up above for your viewing pleasure.
Saturday’s DC FanDome didn’t disappoint. Among many points of interest, we finally got our first trailer for The Batman - Matt Reeves much-hyped take on the legendary Gotham City crimefighter. Featured prominently in the carefully constructed tease were Robert Pattinson as Batman, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. On first glance the film’s ensemble of villains, which include Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and John Turturro as Carmine Falconi, all appeared to be absent. But makeup designer has confirmed Farrell’s Penguin was featured in the trailer, as this screengrab shows:
You’ve probably already seen the news – Ben Affleck is suiting up as Batman once more, with his return to the DCEU in The Flash officially confirmed. Fans have understandably been going bats*** – you can catch the best of their reactions here. Meanwhile, digital artist apexform has wasted no time in joining in. Their newest fan art celebrates a moment fittingly dubbed “Batfleck Returns”:
Easter eggs. Who doesn’t love them? Those hidden in-jokes waiting in plain sight to be discovered. A Twitter page dedicated to hunting down movie Easter eggs has unearthed an amusing nugget from a Marvel sequel. They’ve dug up a 2016 question and answer with David Tennant. The Jessica Jones superbad was asked which Avenger would cry the most watching The Fault in our Stars, to which he said Ant-Man. Well, have a look at this screen-grab from the opening scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
DC FanDome moves ever-closer. Saturday’s virtual event has the blue half of superhero fandom (oh right, FanDome, I’m just getting that now) on the edge of their seats. The drip-feed of content in these barren cinema-less months has started to morph into a cascade and already we’ve seen the reveal of The Batman’s logo.
