With talk surrounding Zack Snyder’s fabled cut of Justice League showing no signs of ceasing, it seems like this is a subject we won't stop reporting on anytime soon. Based on the amount of changes that Joss Whedon and the studio made from the original vision, one can only assume that we’ve been witness to a modern day parallel of the situation involving Richard Donner and Richard Lester on Superman II. That said, we can only hope it doesn’t take a quarter century or so for us to see what could’ve been.
As you may be aware, Marvel kicked off their "Fresh Start" initiative not long ago, thus affording readers a variety of highly accessible jumping on points when it comes to enjoying tales featuring their favorite superheroes - or ones they're just getting into.
Though The Addams Family may not have been the first movie in which Christina Ricci had starred, it was most assuredly the one that put her on the map, thus kicking off an illustrious career that's still going strong to this day. In fact, it was her impeccable performance in that and the sequel, Addams Family Values, which has caused many to view her as being the definitive Wednesday - not to mention my biggest childhood crush (I think that says something about the type of kid I was).
Legends of Tomorrow may have ended its season earlier than much of its DC TV brethren, but it remains in the hearts and minds of devoted viewers everywhere. After posting what I personally thought to be its finest outing to date, the network has since decided to pair the time travelling series with its progenitor, Arrow, on Monday nights this fall. To be honest, this could end up being my favorite evening of television.
Though we can't be sure of which DC films beyond Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 1984 will actually make it to the finish line, one of those seemingly gaining the most traction is that of Birds of Prey. I mean, not only did it recently receive a director in the form of Cathy Yan, but it's also being backed by Margot Robbie herself. Because of that, I think this picture stands a far better chance of seeing the light of day than, say, The New Gods.
In a matter of weeks, about 100,000 or so of the people fortunate enough to have procured passes to San Diego Comic-Con will be able to rub their unique experiences in our faces by saying they were in the room when certain movies were revealed, or when various new trailers were dropped.
Despite there being a multitude of DC films involving Harley Quinn supposedly in development, one could say that Birds of Prey beat out the rest of the pack because it was the one that actually had backing from fan favorite actress Margot Robbie herself, who’d been pulling for an R-rated girl gang flick.
Once 2017’s glimpse into the humble lives of Derry’s residents proved to be a box office juggernaut, it only made sense that studios scramble to get the next adaptation of a story penned by Stephen King up on the big screen, chief among which will be IT: Chapter Two. After all, it’s more than understandable that Pennywise continue leading the way as the horror keeps flowing.
Considering that The Flash has been tearing it up over on The CW for the past four years - and making the dreams of comic book fans the world over come true in the process - I must confess that I'm not exactly clamoring for a major motion picture at this point. After all, TV is capable of developing characters - as well as introducing a myriad of other heroes and villains - in ways that simply aren't possible for two-hour movies to achieve.
