With the latest full trailer for Avengers: Infinity War having arrived a couple weeks back, it’s only understandable that devout True Believers and casual moviegoers alike begin frothing at the mouth. After all, it felt like an eternity had passed since the previous one dropped and the film’s release date is coming up fast.
If you were around during the 1990's, then it stands to reason that you remember how big of a deal the X-Men were at that time. I mean, not only did you have the animated series creating new fans every day, but there was also an expansive toyline and the comic books were arguably booming more than they'd been for some time.
DC may not be launching a line-wide initiative this summer as they did in the past with the New 52 and Rebirth, but it could be argued that the coming months could see similar levels of excitement and rejuvenation. I mean, not only do we have Brian Michael Bendis relaunching Superman to look forward to, but there's also the matter of Scott Snyder doing likewise with Justice League, effectively making the flagship team's lineup reflect that of what was offered in the beloved animated series.
Admittedly, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the Merc with a Mouth around, but even I can't deny that I'm very much excited for Deadpool 2. I mean, not only does it look like a kick-ass action movie, but I'd have to be dense not to concede that Ryan Reynolds is the perfect fit for the titular character.
In a matter of days, we'll all bear witness to one of the most ambitious and deliciously absurd crossovers to ever grace airwaves when Supernatural's highly anticipated mashup with Scooby-Doo finally arrives. And while both franchises are quite tonally different, you have to admit that having them join forces is such a no-brainer.
Say what you want about A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, but I personally believe it to be an underrated entry in the franchise. It may have brought the Springwood Slasher into the waking world for the wealth of the film, sure, but I found it to be quite enjoyable nonetheless. The burgeoning horror icon had some defining moments in that installment, not to mention the overall product being so quintessentially '80s.
Despite Batman being DC's most prolific hero in media for the past 30 years, Warner Bros. have sure been protective of both him and his supporting characters. Heck, we won't soon forget how the likes of Two-Face, Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul weren't allowed to appear on The Batman - an animated series - because the studio thought the general audience would confuse them with those appearing in Christopher Nolan's live action trilogy!
With the Dark Knight having existed for nearly eight decades, it comes as no surprise there have been alternate takes on the character. From popular Elseworlds tales like Gotham by Gaslight to possible futures in which someone such as Damian Wayne takes up the mantle, there never seems to be any shortage of ways to explore the mythos. But one particular addition that has arguably risen above all others has to be that of Batman Beyond.
For those of us who lamented the radio silence that followed Justice League Mortal's cancellation about a decade ago, the past week or two have come as a real treat. In short, we've finally seen what DJ Cotrona looked like when wearing his Superman costume and some concept art hinting at how Armie Hammer's Batman may have appeared.
After what was pretty much a decade of radio silence following production on Justice League Mortal being shut down, it's great to see all the info that's been trickling online as of late. Granted, it came at a price - that being the demise of a tell-all documentary chronicling the film's ill-fated story - but we're more than willing to reap the consolation prizes.
