Even in the modern TV landscape, one that now makes room for online streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, HBO very much remains a hallmark of quality for the medium, and one need only look to the wildly successful Westworld for a recent example of such prestige.
There is, however, plenty of offerings on the network beyond Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s unnerving drama, and one such TV series that earned rave reviews throughout the summer was The Night Of, an eight-part procedural spun out from the BBC’s Criminal Minds series. As our review attests, it’s a damn impressive show, featuring John Turturro and Riz Ahmed of Nightcrawler fame navigating the dark streets of New York as they work tirelessly to solve a deeply complex murder case. Expect twists and turns aplenty.
