Hot on the heels of last week’s teaser trailer comes our first detailed look at Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. If the footage above is any indication, this new animated film is keeping the spirit of the classic 1960’s TV show alive and well. The visuals are especially crisp and vibrant and Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar return to reprise their iconic roles of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman, respectively.

While the movie’s plot remains mostly shrouded in mystery, the official synopsis does provide a few hints:

“It’s back to the 1960s as Batman and Robin spring into action when Gotham City is threatened by a quartet of Batman’s most fiendish foes – Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman. This time, the four Super-Villains have combined their wicked talents to hatch a plot so nefarious that the Dynamic Duo will need to go to outer space (and back) to foil their arch enemies and restore order in Gotham City. It’s a truly fantastic adventure that will pit good against evil, good against good, evil against evil … and feature two words that exponentially raise the stakes for both sides: Replicator Ray. Holy Multiplication Tables!”

We’ve also learnt that Rick Morales (Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League – Cosmic Clash) will direct a script penned by James Tucker and Michael Jelenic, who both worked on Batman: The Brave and the Bold, an animated series that was heavily influenced by Adam West’s heroic adventures under the cowl. Tucker has voiced his admiration for that era of Batman numerous times in the past, so I can only imagine the amount of passion that went into the script.

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be available via Digital HD on October 11, with the Blu-Ray Combo Pack and DVD following on November 1.
