Upon announcing the release, EW also released an exclusive trailer for the upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release as well, which can be viewed below.

The Hunger Games will inevitably be one of the biggest DVD and Blu-ray releases this year and with films raking in more and more money on Blu-Ray and DVD sales these days, Lionsgate will have a pretty heavy payday come August.

The best news for fans though is the three hours worth of behind the scenes footage that will be on the DVD/Blu-Ray. Among other things, fans can expect to see the “Propaganda Film” that is shown during the Reaping as well as a eight-part documentary titled The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games.

It should be noted that box office sales is not the only proof the film will have a successful Blu-ray and DVD release. The New York Times confirmed in January that there were 9.6 million copies of the novel in circulation. That number sky-rocketed to 23.5 million by merely releasing the trailer for the film.

I can personally attest to the fact that after the film was released, attaining a copy of Catching Fire seemed virtually impossible unless it was on the Nook or Kindle. With the jump in sales, Scholastic took notice and as of March 28th there were 36.5 million copies in print, according to THR.

If you don’t want to wait in those dreadful lines to get your copy at midnight, pre-order The Hunger Games as early as this Friday, May 25th to ensure your copy!  And “may the odds be ever in your favor.”
