Next year Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be bringing the Johnny Depp box office flop, The Rum Diary, to Blu-Ray. The film was directed by Bruce Robinson and was based on the novel written by Hunter S. Thompson, who also wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In the film, Depp plays a journalist in Puerto Rico and he’s joined by Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Rispoli.

The film went down as one of the worst openings ever for popular movie star Johnny Depp and it lasted maybe three weeks in most cinemas. The general reception for the film wasn’t all that great due to the lack of craziness that was advertised so heavily in the trailers. Most also compared it to Thompson’s other novel that was adapted for film and starred Depp, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

The Rum Diary can be seen as a bore with very little going on when compared to the wild and crazy Fear and Loathing. Fans of the novel also mentioned that The Rum Diary is very different than Fear and Loathing and that Depp and Robinson did an okay job with the film but didn’t do the novel justice.

The disc comes with a 1080p video transfer along with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Only two behind-the-scenes featurettes were mentioned on the press release.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
