Lionsgate Bringing The Last Stand To Blu-Ray In April

It was only a matter of time before the 80's action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the big screen. I've been longing for his return, ever since his brief popup in The Expendables and of course his disappointing performance in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. I've always been a huge fan of Schwarzenegger, having grown up the prime 90's era where his films reigned supreme.

Lionsgate has announced director Kim Jee-Woon’s first American feature The Last Stand for Blu-Ray in April. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Knoxville and Peter Stormare.

It was only a matter of time before the 80’s action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the big screen. I’ve been longing for his return, ever since his brief popup in The Expendables and of course his disappointing performance in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. I’ve always been a huge fan of Schwarzenegger, having grown up the prime 90’s era where his films reigned supreme.

What better way to blow holes through some bad guys than to do it in director Kim Jee-Woon’s first American feature? The Last Stand in the hands of literally anyone else would have been a disaster, but Jee-Woon injects his unique brand of energy into almost all of the action scenes, making for a film that’s both shot fluidly and presented in a fun manner that will have you both laughing and cheering.

The Last Stand is a certified good movie that gets a pass from me, even if Arnold’s acting is a bit rusty. There’s just too much old-fashion fun to be experienced to really get worked up over a film that never tries to be anything that it’s not.

I’m not sure why it bombed theatrically. Maybe audiences are already sick of the idea of having Schwarzenegger back on the screen or maybe there’s just no more room for shoot ’em up action films anymore. It’s a sad day in the movie business when you realize that not even Schwarzenegger (or even Stallone in Bullet to the Head) can sell a movie anymore.

Our very own Sam Woolf had this to say about the film in his review:

The Last Stand is a rare breed of comeback picture, a decent enough action movie, but one propped up by a subversive reverence for its star

The film will be coming to Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack with the following bonus material:

  • Not In My Town: Making The Last Stand
  • Cornfield Chaos
  • The Dinkum Firearm and Historic Weaponry Museum
  • Actor-Cam Anarchy: with Johnny Knoxville and Jaimie Alexander
  • Deleted/Extended & Alternate Scenes

The Last Stand will be available to own on April 30th, 2013.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
