Lionsgate Bringing Texas Chainsaw 3D To Blu-Ray In April

I've never been a huge fan of Tobe Hooper's original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I appreciate everything that it has done for the horror genre at large, but I think I've only viewed it twice. I actually enjoyed the remake to an extent and the prequel even more, while not really caring for any of the original sequels. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not the biggest Texas Chainsaw franchise fan at all.

Lionsgate has announced the 3D/2D Blu-Ray release of Texas Chainsaw 3D for April. The sequel to the Tobe Hooper original stars Alexandra Daddario, Scott Eastwood and Dan Yeager.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Tobe Hooper’s original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I appreciate everything that it has done for the horror genre at large, but I think I’ve only viewed it twice. I actually enjoyed the remake to an extent and the prequel even more, while not really caring for any of the original sequels.

I went into this sequel to the original with no real expectations. Like I said before, I didn’t love the original film or the sequels, but I dug the remake and its prequel enough to warrant revisiting them from time to time. The trailers and marketing for Lionsgate’s new entry looked pretty bad, with so many images getting lifted directly from previous material, without ever showing us why we should bother seeing this one if we’ve already seen all of the other ones.

The film itself actually turned out to be a surprisingly well-made low budget horror flick that included all of the things we’ve grown to love in modern horror, like bad acting all-around and a plot that’s far from plausible, but the final few scenes hinted at this new series possibly taking things in a fresh direction that hasn’t already been explored to death.

Texas Chainsaw 3D opened big enough to have Lionsgate almost immediately greenlight a sequel, but it dropped like a bad piece of meat rather quickly in the weeks following, which makes me believe that the sequel might suffer from an even smaller budget.

Our very own Matt Donato had this to say about the film in his review:

I wish I could say Texas Chainsaw 3D is the dark rebirth of a horror icon, but instead it’s just another poorly written, feebly acted, terror devoid slasher flick with no rhyme or reason and it is not worthy of Leatherface’s participation.

The film will be coming to 3D/2D Blu-Ray with a digital copy and the following special features:

  • Two Audio Commentaries
  • Texas Chainsaw Legacy
  • Resurrecting the Saw
  • The Old Homestead
  • Casting Terror

  • Burning Down The House
  • Trapped in the Van
