Universal Studios will be releasing The Thing (2011) next year on Blu-Ray. The prequel/remake was directed by Matthijs Van Heijningen and was released theatrically in October. It failed to do much damage at the box office and most reviews were lukewarm.
I actually enjoyed the film for what it was, but I can see why most disliked it. Our very own Kristal Cooper reviewed the film, which can be read right here. She summed up the film by saying that:
“The fact that this new incarnation of The Thing falls flat is proof positive that unlike the film’s industrious alien, parasitic remakes can’t easily carbon copy the host.”
As for the Blu-Ray, it has an expected street date of January 31st, 2012. The package will be a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. The film will come with multiple special features in addition to the 1080p video transfer and the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track.
