Latest Injustice 2 Trailer Heralds The Arrival Of Brainiac

Injustice 2 developer NetherRealm Studios has just released the fifth part in its Shattered Alliances video series, this time devoting screen time almost entirely to one of Superman's most dangerous and persistent enemies: Brainiac. The cold, calculated, collector of worlds has arrived in Earth's atmosphere looking for the Man of Steel in order to finally put a permanent end to his life, and the android has no intention of carrying out his plans peacefully.

Of course, nobody other than Krypton’s Earth-stranded survivors have any idea the threat that Brainiac poses to the planet’s population, and with Superman not exactly in the Justice League’s good books by the events of Injustice 2, Supergirl‘s taken it upon herself to warn her comrades of the imposing doom that awaits them. Batman, always ready to confront any threat head-on, decides to pay Kal-El a visit in order to get the lowdown on how to stop the supervillain, although he only receives a simple “You can’t,” in return. Trying times, eh, Bats?

It appears Earth’s protectors are going to have their work cut out for them in Injustice 2, then. Besides having to contend with Brainiac, Gorilla Grodd’s newly-christened Society of supervillains also has a bone to pick with the Justice League, with its ultimate goal being to, as Grodd puts it, “take back” the world from its pious counterpart.

How all of these narrative threads end up weaving together to form a spectacle-laden whole remains to be seen, but could it be that both the League and Society end up joining forces to tackle Brainiac together? It certainly looks like the latter intends to stay for a while, what with him having unleashed an army of soldiers on Earth’s soil during the trailer. We’ll know for sure in just a few weeks.

Injustice 2 is out May 16 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If you’ve yet to watch previous episodes in the Shattered Alliances series, you can find them here.
