But first things first – Injustice 2‘s campaign picks up right where the original left off; Superman’s actions have led to the dismantling of Earth’s Justice League into two splinter groups, with players encouraged to pick a side to fight for. The Man of Steel may not be able to sway the Dark Knight to his cause, but the likes of Robin, Cyborg, Black Adam and Wonder Woman, for better or worse, all still count themselves as being allies of the Kryptonian.

On the flip side, Batman’s own group consists of an eclectic group of freedom fighters, including Black Canary, Green Lantern and even Harley Quinn, but if you’d rather revel in villainy, then Gorilla Grodd’s Society might be the better pick. Catwoman, Bane, Captain Cold and several other iconic DC characters have joined up with the primate in order to dole out a new brand of ‘justice’ –  just don’t expect its members to have any semblance of moral decency.

Proceeding that is a further explanation of Injustice 2‘s loot and gear system – which you can read more about here – as well as a sneak peak at the beat ’em up’s aforementioned Multiverse Mode and player guilds. The former looks every bit a natural evolution of Mortal Kombat X‘s Living Towers system – where each battle has a different ruleset – with the video promising new challenges on a monthly, weekly and hourly basis. Player guilds, too, look like an expanded version of MKX‘s Faction system, but we’ll have to wait and see how popular these prove to be over the coming weeks.

Injustice 2 is out May 16 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In related news, NetherRealm just recently announced the first three characters coming to the brawler as DLC, and you can watch the reveal trailer here.
