We live in a time where movie piracy has never been more popular. So, you wouldn’t think news about release dates of films on DVD and Blu-ray would really matter. But when the movie is Avengers: Endgame, things change a little.
In addition to being on track to becoming the highest-grossing pic of all-time (roughly $60 million to go!), we can only imagine where on the “top ten most pirated movies” list it’ll end up. Speaking of which, if the Blu-Ray/DVD release and its debut on the upcoming Disney Plus streaming service happen as they’re expected, pirates might be cashing in a little more than they thought.
The guys over at Express have discovered a good reason for concern for fans who think DVDs are so last decade. Typically, these days, movies release in the following order: cinema, streaming and Blu-ray/DVD. According to DVDsReleaseDates.com though, Endgame will be out on disc in August. That seems normal when you consider it hit theaters in April, but Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, has already revealed the movie’s streaming release date, saying the following last month:
“We’re very pleased with our Q2 results and thrilled with the record-breaking success of Avengers: Endgame, which is now the second-highest grossing film of all time and will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting December 11th.”

This means fans will have to wait nearly four full months after the Blu-ray/DVD release to stream the movie. That’s assuming the disc release date is worldwide, and the streaming service starts out in the US only, as expected.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought a movie. Or used our now-busted Blu-ray player. So Mr. Iger, I’ve got some bad news for you. Seeing how we can pretty much get what we want on the internet when we want it these days, us humans don’t like to wait.
Only time will tell how the home video release timeline for Avengers: Endgame will pan out, and how fans will react, but either way, the much anticipated Disney Plus arrives in the US on December 11th. And as soon as we get a confirmed Blu-ray/DVD release date for the aforementioned MCU film, we’ll be sure to let you know.
