SUICIDE SQUAD

10 Scenes You Need To See In Suicide Squad’s Extended Cut

After months and months of growing hype, Suicide Squad finally arrived in August and was met with... critical derision and widespread disappointment from fans. Instead of the super-fun spectacle that the trailers promised, the movie was a muddled hot mess. There just seemed to be too many key story and character beats missing for it to work. Something which was proven to be true when it was revealed that Suicide Squad had been entirely recut late in the day. Oh well, fans thought, at least we have the Extended Cut to save the movie, right?

A few people had previously sworn that they had spotted David Ayer among the Belle Reve guards in the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad. If you were one of those people, pat yourself on the back as the Extended Cut confirms that the director gave himself a part in his own movie.

In the previously discussed elongated Killer Croc intro, Ayer turns up as the guard who feeds KC his goat for lunch. He also gets a line of dialogue. Clearly never having faced Croc before, Ayer’s character (credited as Smitty) asks Captain Griggs if he really ate another guard’s hand. Griggs responds by pointing out said guard’s new “vulcanized rubber” hand.

It’s a fun moment and another welcome easter egg for fans to spot. It also shows how relentless Ayer’s editing was, as he even cut his own cameo out of the theatrical version of the film.
