Latest DC News: Ezra Miller is still on the hook despite the new ‘Flash’ trailer and James Gunn’s pup digs up the latest Batman casting news

Things are heating up in the DC fandom following the latest news during the Super Bowl.

Nothing is as hot as the new trailer for The Flash right now but the side eye for Ezra Miller hasn’t diminished. But the fans are loving the new Supergirl and Batman — but a pic of DC CEO James Gunn’s pooch may just have answered a major question about The Brave and the Bold casting.

Well, that spanking new Super Bowl trailer may have DC fans convinced that James Gunn and co. weren’t just blowing smoke when they talked about The Flash being one of the best DC movies ever, but that hasn’t spelled absolute forgiveness of its long-troubled lead, Ezra Miller.

Miller’s behavior over the last year, which has included accusations of disorderly conduct, harassment, violent conduct, grooming, and burglary, resulted in Miller being placed on probation as part of a plea deal — and has many fans questioning why he hasn’t faced harsh recriminations from DC Studios.

Their inclusion in the press materials for the upcoming film — set to kickstart the new DCU reboot — has been roasted by fans, with some suggesting the actor may require Hannibal Lecter-style accommodations on the upcoming press tour to prevent them from lashing out again. For their part, Miller has issued an apology, and studio heads, including Peter Safran, have stated that they believe they are on the road to recovery from the mental crises that have plagued them in the past.

While plenty of people were talking about the two different Batmans we got to see in The Flash trailer, plenty of folks were talking about our first look at Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. It’s our first time seeing the Woman of Steel on the big screen since way back in 1984 when Helen Slater appeared in the less-than-we-received first Supergirl film. (The Legend of Billie Jean is still a classic.)

Calle appears to have made a much more positive debut with fans impressed enough by Calle that many of them are already clamoring for James Gunn to hold on to the lightning and retain her to appear in the as-yet-uncast DCU film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

As yet, of course, the suggestion is only that, amounting to little more than a fancast, but should the good vibes make enough of an impression on Gun and the studio, Calle may get to hang on to her House of El “S” insignia for a few films longer.

James Gunn’s pooch pic led to an exciting bit of Batman news

James Gunn’s regular Twitter posts are a seemingly never-ending source of what’s going on and what may be going to happen in the world of DC studios but no one expected a simple picture of his pet puppy would turn out to be a major DCU revelation. When the DC CEO posted a snap of his puppy Miles to Twitter he was immediately hit up as to whether George Clooney, who played Batman in the ill-fated Batman and Robin would be making a cameo in The Flash.

Gunn quickly kiboshed that particular piece of gossip but the follow-up was a bonafide reveal. When asked if we would be getting a new actor or a familiar face to play the Dark Knight in the upcoming DCU Bat-film The Brave and the Bold, Gunn came right out and spilled the beans, tweeting “New Actor.” So start getting your video auditions and bugging your agents for potential new Bat-actors. All we need to know now is how old Bats will be in his DCU debut.
