I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Damon Lindelof's Watchmen was awesome. Set 34 years after the events of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' groundbreaking comic series, the show extrapolated where this alternate world could have ended up, was ridiculously timely and forward-thinking, and became a critical and ratings smash. The industry paid attention, too, with Watchmen picking up 26 Emmy nominations and winning 11 of them.
Star Wars propelled Harrison Ford to the big leagues. The former carpenter went from playing bit parts to one of the most famous names on the planet, with swashbuckling space adventurer Han Solo by far the coolest character in the Original Trilogy. Men wanted to be him, women wanted him and, let's face it, a lot of men probably wanted him, too. But though Star Wars made his career, Ford has often expressed his annoyance both with it and the fans.
With theaters remaining shut for the foreseeable future and most major movies now set to debut on VOD, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is beginning to look like a bona fide cinematic event.
Silent Hill is currently dead. After Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills was canned, there's been no news of a follow-up, despite the perpetual unfounded rumors of Sony buying the IP and/or Konami resurrecting it. As a longtime fan, this state of affairs is intensely frustrating, especially as Resident Evil moves from strength to strength and we got a tantalizing taste of a current-gen Silent Hill via the amazing P.T. demo.
In what's fast become one of the least pleasant holiday traditions, disgraced former actor and Jeffrey Epstein associate Kevin Spacey has returned with another vaguely threatening YouTube video. This follows in the wake of clips released in 2018 and 2019, both of which were insanely creepy performances where Spacey appeared to channel his Frank Underwood character from House of Cards.
Shia LaBeouf has not had a great 2020. At the beginning of the year, things looked rosy. He'd apparently overcome his alcohol dependency issues, was picking up good notices for Honey Boy, had won over audiences with the excellent The Peanut Butter Falcon and there were multiple reports that major studios considered him a rising prospect once again. The peak came when he beat out several A-list competitors for a role in Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling, apparently making his mainstream comeback official.
There isn't another video game heroine quite like Bayonetta. Her combination of high octane action, stylish visuals and sheer panache almost instantly made her an icon. Both of her solo efforts have sold strongly, she's well established as a Smash Bros. fighter and there's now a third outing on the way.
God of War has been one of Sony's biggest video game franchises ever since the first outing debuted on PlayStation 2 way back in 2005. Kratos has gone on to behead, disembowel and dismember all manner of mythological beasties over seven adventures, culminating in 2018's incredible God of War. This was a soft reboot that shifted focus from Greek to Norse mythology, introduced more mature themes and added a lot of depth to Kratos' character. It's considered one of the finest efforts of the generation and everyone is eagerly looking forward to the sequel due for release late next year.
