When I first tuned in for Supernatural‘s pilot episode back in 2005, I had no idea that what started out as a cool little horror show would capture the imaginations of millions of fans the world over. But, lo and behold, here we are anticipating a fourteenth season set to kickoff this fall. If this continues, Sam and Dean Winchester may one day give the likes of Gunsmoke, The Simpsons and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit a run for their money!
Now, before we get ahead of ourselves by pondering the possibilities of what’s to come in the next chapter of this seemingly endless saga, the devoted hunters among you should be thrilled to know that Supernatural: The Complete Thirteenth Season has finally been given a concrete release date. In fact, you can bring it home – or back to your Men of Letters bunker of choice, for that matter – on Blu-ray or DVD on September 4.
If you’re yet to catch up, I won’t spoil much, but it should be known that the boys have two major things to contend with this time around: Making sure Lucifer’s son, Jack, doesn’t go all dark side, as well as trying to fend off a power hungry version of the archangel Michael from another universe. Needless to say, doing the “two dads” routine and thwarting a celestial invasion is a lot to deal with.
And if that weren’t enough, the legendary crossover with Scooby-Doo, “Scoobynatural,” is also included. Believe me, it’s a pitch perfect mashup in every sense, and should satisfy fans of both series. For my money, it’s worth the price of admission alone.
In addition to the 23 episodes that make up this season, here’s a full rundown of the bonus content to be offered:
Mystery Mash-Up: The Making of Scoobynatural
Into The Apocalypse: A World Without The Winchesters
The Winchester Mythology: Rise of the Nephilim
Kansas – Carry On Wayward Son: Performance at 2017 San Diego Comic-Con
Supernatural: 2017 Comic-Con Panel
