If you're a Netflix subscriber, it's highly unlikely you're without content to watch, as the service has been pumping out excellent stuff for months. June saw the release of the fourth and final season of 13 Reasons Why, classics films like E.T. the Extraterrestrial and The Silence of the Lambs, and Spike Lee's well-received Da 5 Bloods, among many, many others. July has been off to a wonderful start, too, as highlights include the epic Cloud Atlas finally making its way to the platform alongside horror favorites like Paranormal Activity and the very underrated Splice. But if that's not enough, next week is bringing with it even more big titles to add to your list.
We live in a time when there are so many people in show business that it's hard to remember everyone's name and the movies, shows, or music they've made. In film and television there are some truly incredible actors who have changed the landscape altogether and blurred that line between fiction and reality in ways some people could simply never match. But according to one actor and director, he believes he's met the best actress of all time – his wife, the very talented Alison Brie.
Netflix is the most popular streaming platform around, and it's easy to see why. After all, it's filled to the brim with classic films we all love, critically-acclaimed original programming and an incredibly user-friendly interface that makes using the service a breeze. Sorting through content is a simple affair in almost every case, and specific movies or shows can be found nearly instantly with a handy search function. You can even delete your viewing history fairly easily if you know what you're doing.
The COVID-19 coronavirus hasn't made 2020 the most pleasant year for moviegoers. In fact, nearly every theater around the globe has remained closed throughout the pandemic to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Though many of them initially planned to begin reopening in mid-July, most have opted to postpone their reopenings until later in the year in the wake of rising infection rates, especially in the United States where cases are now nearing a staggering 3 million with a death toll of 131,000.
Ever since the pandemic started, it feels like many of our favorite streaming services have been pumping out exactly the kinds of binge-worthy shows and classic films we all want to watch during a quarantine. Netflix, in particular, has been doing a fantastic job of keeping our eyes glued to the screen over the past few months, especially with some of June's excellent additions like Steven Spielberg's beloved E.T. the Extraterrestrial, famous horror flick The Silence of the Lambs, and the politically-charged V for Vendetta.
The COVID-19 coronavirus has now infected nearly 11 million people worldwide and has claimed the lives of over 515,000. Things are looking the worst in the United States, which still remains the epicenter of the pandemic, as coronavirus cases continue to rise exponentially day after day. With 2.75 million confirmed cases and 130,000 deaths, things are looking grim in the wake of many states pushing to continue reopening their economies.
Streaming services have been doing an excellent job of keeping everyone busy as we all continue quarantining, and Disney Plus has been no exception. June was a particularly excellent month for the platform with the additions of huge titles like Tarzan, Tarzan 2, and Avengers: Infinity War. Meanwhile, July has already set to be fantastic, too, with big drops like the musical Hamilton, animated film Ice Age: Collision Course, and classic sports movies like The Mighty Ducks and The Big Green. Of course, when Disney Plus giveth, Disney Plus taketh away, and July means we've lost a few awesome movies that some fans are sure to miss.
It doesn't feel like it's been 10 full years since the launch of PlayStation Plus, but time flies when you're having fun, right? For just $60 a year, Sony's online multiplayer subscription service allows PlayStation 4 owners to access chat functionalities and play games with their friends, but it also comes with two free games per month. They're not always winners as is evident by May's offerings of Farming Simulator 19 and Cities: Skylines, but some months have exceptional free giveaways. June proved that point admirably when Sony gave subscribers Call of Duty: WWII and Star Wars Battlefront II, and now they're doing it again with July's PlayStation Plus games.
It's a brand new month, and though it might seem like all hope is lost for 2020, at least streaming services have kept us occupied with plenty of stuff to watch. And like most platforms, Amazon Prime is dropping a ton of new movies on day one of July so that you can fill up your list and stay glued to your television. Not every flick releasing today is a winner, but you're likely to find at least a handful of things you're going to be dying to see.
