It's been nearly half a year since the COVID-19 coronavirus began creeping across the globe to eventually cement itself as the worst pandemic since 1918's Spanish Flu. In that time, the outbreak has infected at least 5 million people worldwide and resulted in 225,000 deaths. The United States remains the epicenter of the virus with nearly 1.6 million cases and a death toll rapidly closing in on 100,000.
As the world continues to deal with an ongoing pandemic, streaming services are keeping us stocked up with plenty of enjoyable movies and shows to watch. May has seen Netflix add a wonderful array of titles across various genres, so there's a bit of something for everyone. And today marks another content drop that includes at least one major point of interest that many fans will be excited to see.
The seemingly endless legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has been a rollercoaster ride for everyone involved. Since even before their 2017 divorce, the two ex-lovers have spent their time in court over allegations of abuse and defamation, often dragging those closest to the couple into the ordeal to testify and defend them.
Netflix has been churning out substantial updates to its content library during the ongoing pandemic, and May has been a wonderful month so far filled to the brim with heavy-hitters like District 9, an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special, and the unexpectedly popular The Wrong Missy. May 19th looks to add plenty of new titles to that list, and although none of them are massive blockbuster movies or genre-defining shows, it's a pretty good collection for a mid-month drop.
Fans of Christopher Nolan's Batman movie trilogy will be happy to hear that all three films – Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises – will be seeing a re-release in theaters. There is an unfortunate catch for most of us, sadly – they'll only be shown in theaters in Asian countries.
A few days ago, we told you that a TV show adaptation of the immensely popular Kingdom Hearts video game series is headed to Disney Plus. And while it's still early days for the project, we've now heard that the Mouse House has already begun to look into possible casting, with the studio said to be interested in a Titans star for the role of Sora.
There might not be a lot to do while you're stuck inside right now, but if you're a gamer, there has at least been no shortage of excellent titles to download and play. Between Xbox One's Games with Gold, PlayStation's Play at Home initiative, and plenty of publishers giving away games to help convince people to stay indoors, there's a little bit of something for everyone.
There is plenty of content to watch across every major streaming platform already, something everyone has certainly appreciated during the ongoing pandemic. But who would dare complain about even more movies and shows to check out? Lucky you – Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus are all getting new stuff to watch this weekend, and some of it is absolutely worth your time.
