2020 has been a year full of government shutdowns, extreme social distancing, and a whole lot of boredom – and it's all thanks to the seemingly endless COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. With 12.2 million confirmed cases and 552,000 deaths across the globe, it's taken quite a toll since it first emerged around the beginning of the year. The United States remains the epicenter of the virus with 3.17 million cases and a death toll of 135,000 so far. And since it's the country most responsible for major film and television content, the pandemic has resulted in a lot of delays in production and release dates.
July has been off to a great start for Disney Plus, especially with awesome new additions like The Mighty Ducks, The Big Green, and Race to Witch Mountain to get the nostalgia train running. With so many excellent shows and movies already available on the service, it's always just icing on the cake to get big content drops throughout the month, and that's exactly what today is bringing. Included in today's releases is a special film many have been waiting to see finally join the platform, so you'll want to load up the app and check it out.
Sony nearly broke the internet with their massive PlayStation 5 stream last month, showcasing 26 brand new titles and revealing a full look at the two hardware configurations that will be launching this holiday season. We even got to see a collection of cool new accessories releasing alongside the console, such as an updated headset, media remote, and HD camera. What we didn't get to see, however, was what the box art for the upcoming PS5 games would look like, but all of that has changed today thanks to a tweet from the official PlayStation Twitter account.
Ever since Netflix added its Top 10 lists back in February, it's been interesting to see what subscribers are currently enamored with. The platform certainly has no shortage of top-tier movies that were wildly popular upon release and have garnered tons of critical acclaim, but still, the Top 10 list is commonly occupied by films that were panned by critics. That's exactly the case with one old flick that no one expected to see on the list, yet it's been there almost all month.
This week marks the start of Johnny Depp's libel case against The Sun's parent company due to their reporting of him being a "wife beater" following his ex-wife Amber Heard's accusations of abuse. Now, Heard is attempting to add fuel to the fire by claiming more abuse from the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, saying that he also dangled her dog out of a car window.
July has been a nice experience so far for anyone with a streaming service subscription. Nearly every platform has offered exceptional new content to watch, and as usual, Netflix leads the pack with some of the best new movies and shows you can check out right away. Subscribers have already been treated to the underrated epic Cloud Atlas, Adam Sandler's often forgotten I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and emotional boxing tale Million Dollar Baby. And now, today is bringing even more new stuff to add to your binge list.
If you have a Netflix subscription then you're probably not hurting for top-tier television and movies to keep you busy. The service is home to an utterly gigantic offering of content, and luckily for us all, a large portion of it is good or great. For instance, this month alone has seen the platform grow with huge hits like Million Dollar Baby, The Karate Kid trilogy and Schindler's List. However, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of stinkers that make their way into the mix, and sometimes those stinkers are the ones that somehow manage to end up at the top of Netflix's charts.
The Polish erotic drama 365 Days has garnered a lot of attention, but not all of it has been positive, and now some wish to see it removed from Netflix.
If you grew up in the 70s and 80s, you all but certainly knew about The Dukes of Hazzard. The immensely popular show ran from January of 1979 until February of 1985 and consistently ranked among the top-rated series of its time, largely in part to its memorable lead characters, Georgian boys Bo and Luke Duke. The mischievous duo spend their time evading law enforcement and their perpetual nemeses Boss Hogg and Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane, a couple of corrupt law enforcement officers intent on bringing the cousins down. However, what was perhaps the most iconic aspect of the show never even had a speaking role.
With so many streaming platforms to choose from and all of them having such exceptional collections of content, deciding which ones to subscribe to can be difficult at times. Sure, Netflix is the most popular, but it's also now losing a lot of fan-favorite Disney and Marvel movies to Disney's own fairly new service, Disney Plus. So, for those big-time fans of the Mouse House's content, Disney Plus has rapidly become a no-brainer. And July's offerings have been wonderful so far, with such classics as The Mighty Ducks and The Big Green, the often overlooked Race to Witch Mountain, and a recorded version of the revered musical Hamilton.
