Captain Marvel 2’s Villain Has Reportedly Been Revealed

Captain Marvel had a huge run at the box office earlier this year, tallying up over a billion dollars to become one of the most successful movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore it should come as no surprise that the House of Ideas is working on a sequel to the Brie Larson-starring megahit, and now if a new rumor is to be believed, we know the exact direction the film’s story is heading in.

According to Reddit user TheMarvelScoopMaster, Captain Marvel 2 will feature a brand new cosmic villain who is expected to have a much larger presence within the fourth phase of the MCU that extends well beyond this movie. While you could scoff at the source all you like, Reddit moderators have verified the poster as someone within the industry with access to this information. That being said, until Marvel confirms it outright, the following intel should be taken with a grain of salt.

According to the leak though, the MCU’s Phase 4 will feature two primary villains, a street-level antagonist from planet Earth (Norman Osborn), and a cosmic entity that will first be introduced in Captain Marvel 2. While the first film set up the return of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Ronan the Accuser for a potential sequel, it seems like Marvel is instead hoping to introduce Michael Korvac as a physical threat to Carol Danvers.

Known as the titular antagonist of the comics’ “Korvac Saga,” the time-traveling half-human/half-futuristic computer has god-like matter altering abilities granted from The Power Cosmic. It’s also important to note, however, that Korvac has a long comic book history with both the Badoon and Galactus. Could his appearance eventually establish those characters in the future of the MCU? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Meanwhile, the ground level threat of the MCU is alleged to be, as mentioned above, Norman Osborn, who’s expected to debut in Spider-Man: Far From Home before becoming the larger Thanos-esque antagonist of the MCU moving forward. Considering Osborn has appeared in two Spider-Man film series prior, Marvel Studios is hoping to take the character in a new direction. Instead of immediately becoming the Green Goblin, for instance, the villain’s arc will be pulled from Dark Reign, and possibly set up the Dark Avengers/Thunderbolts.

Obviously, Kevin Feige is remaining tight-lipped regarding any future installment of the MCU. We know Disney has booked quite a few release dates for the Marvel’s mystery films, but it could be a while before we have any solid information about Captain Marvel 2. As always, though, watch this space for more.
