‘Vote like your life depends on it, because it does’: Billie Eilish and Finneas celebrate National Voter Registration Day by sharing who they’re voting for

"The choice is clear."

Pop stars are taking Taylor Swift’s lead and throwing support behind presidential hopeful Kamala Harris, something that was highlighted in bold thanks to a recent endorsement from Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas.

The “Bad Guy” singer, who recently made headlines for a supposed feud with Swift, took to social media to share news of her endorsement, coinciding with National Voter Registration Day in the U.S. Alongside sharing resources for checking your voter status, the Eilish siblings officially declared their support for the Harris-Walz ticket, and wrote that “the choice is clear.”

In the accompanying video, Finneas — who is Eilish’s brother as well as her music producer and collaborator — urged voters to check their status and vote early for the 2024 presidential election. For her part, Eilish revealed the key issues she’s most influenced by in the lead-up to the election in November, saying Harris and Walz are “fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy.”

Finneas echoed Eilish’s message and stressed the need to not “let extremists control our lives [and] our freedoms,” before name-checking the “dangerous” Project 2025 agenda and Harris’ role in avoiding it. “Vote like your life depends on it,” Eilish later declares, “because it does.” It’s the latest show of support from a pair of musicians who have long made their political stances public.

Ever since she was able to vote, Eilish has been staunchly opposed to Harris’ opponent, Donald Trump, and was even the first musician to ever perform at the Democratic National Convention in 2020, the same year she turned 18. Eilish, who is most vocal about issues relating to climate change, said at the DNC that Trump “is destroying our country and everything we care about,” while stressing the importance of leaders who “will solve problems like climate change and Covid — not deny them.”

Eilish and Finneas join a chorus of fellow musicians and celebrities who’ve firmly backed the Harris campaign, with everyone from Olivia Rodgrio to Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand, and Mark Hamill rallying around the Democratic nominee in the months since Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

Perhaps the buzziest celebrity endorsement, however, came just last week, when Swift officially declared her support of Harris and incited rage in Trump and a proclamation from his running mate JD Vance that an endorsement from the world’s biggest pop star doesn’t matter (sure, Jan).

In any case, the shared support of the Democratic candidate might be the only thing Swift and Eilish agree on, following a (mostly fan-made) beef between the pair that erupted after Swift blocked Eilish from ascending the Billboard charts. In what is becoming common practice for Swift, the “Bad Blood” singer re-released new variants of her songs in the same week Eilish dropped her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, prompting speculation that the manoeuvre was strategic.

While we may never know the truth, at least the two musicians can at least be aligned on who they will vote for in November, in much the same way as Trump’s celebrity endorsers Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan and Amber Rose. Side note, none of them have a Grammy Award.
